Gr 4-7-The Callahan Cousins are back with new adventures in the second book of the series by Elizabeth Doyle Carey (Little Brown, 2005). In Book 1, we met Neeve, the well-traveled cousin, Hillary, Kate, and Phoebe. Together again, the cousins are spending their summer vacation with their grandmother, affectionately called "G." The girls are busily decorating their "dorm" when Neeve discovers a picture of her father on his wedding day, but with a woman who is not her mother. In the midst of decorating their living space, avoiding contact with an undesirable girl named Sloan, and learning to drive, the girls help Neeve to unravel her family secrets. A nighttime visit to a little-known graveyard brings the mystery to the forefront, and "G" eventually explains everything to Neeve. Although the narration by Stina Nielsen is excellent, she barely differentiates between the different characters' voices, with the exception of Neeve's Irish accent that comes and goes. Those new to the series may have some trouble following the different characters, but those who have read the previous book will have no problem.-Joyce Rice, Palm Beach County Schools, FL (c) Copyright 2010.
