Death in Summer
There were three deaths that summer. First came Letitia's from a bicycle accident, leaving her husband Thaddeus alone with their baby. The next came a few weeks later when after Letitia's mother had come to help him interview nannies - none of whom they found suitable - so Letitia's mother moved in herself. But just as the household was beginning to settle, the last of the interviewed nannies, an orphan named Pettie who fantasizes about Thaddeus and his darling child, appears. Her unwelcome arrival heralds the third of the summer tragedies...
